The Vasectomy Procedure

Preparing For Your Vasectomy

One Week or Earlier Your Procedure

  1. Review patient instructions
  2. Decide if Sperm Banking / Cryopreservation is appropriate for you.
  3. Do not take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medication (e.g. Nuprin®, Advil®, Motrin®) for 10 days before the procedure. Such medication can increase the risk of bleeding with vasectomy.
Morning of Procedure
  • Wash yourself thoroughly and put on clean, snug briefs (e.g. Under Armour) before your appointment. Shave the front portion of the scrotum, with a light touch, using a new facial razor.

  • Prepare any questions that you may have for your doctor. You will be asked to sign a consent form that states that you understand the risks involved and that sterility cannot be guaranteed.
